The primary goal of our research group is to contribute to the building and refining of a precise theory of the morphology and syntax of natural languages. Our research focuses on core aspects of morphological and syntactic theory and their interaction with other aspects of grammar, such as: the morphology-syntax, syntax-semantics, and morphology-phonology interface, prosody, pragmatics, and language processing.  We explore the nature of morphological processes through the lens of neo-constructivist (realizational, late-insertion) models, raising questions concerning the nature of word-formation processes (including morphophonology) and the interaction between syntactic objects and semantic interpretation. The principle empirical focus of our research lies in 'word-level' phenomena. We draw upon typologically diverse languages and language families, and share a particular interest in multilingual grammars. Finally, we employ multi-modal methods of data elicitation, including both off- and on-line methods, ranging from one-on-one and group field work interviews to corpus investigations to psycholinguistic experiments. Our research endeavors seek to advance our understanding of mental representations and formal structure building principles of said representations. Our research group is an informal forum for members and guests to present ongoing research, to discuss recent theoretical proposals in the literature, and to collaborate on projects related to these issues.
